Walmart Online Orderfilling and Personal Shopper Jobs: Pay, Duties and How to Apply (USA & Canada)
Updated October 2026 · Independent guide by Midiablog. We are not affiliated with Walmart.
When customers order groceries and other items online for pickup or delivery, Walmart store associates pick and pack those orders. In the USA these jobs are usually listed under “online orderfilling and delivery” or as personal shopper roles; in Canada they are called “OMNI Customer Fulfillment Associate”. This guide explains what the job involves, what it pays, how it differs from Spark delivery driving and how to apply.
What an online orderfilling associate does
- Pick items for online orders around the store using a handheld device, including fresh, refrigerated and frozen products.
- Choose fresh, undamaged products and check quantities and product codes.
- Pack orders into totes efficiently and label them correctly.
- Hand orders to customers at the pickup area and help with questions or problems.
- Follow safety and food hygiene rules, keep the area clean and, in some stores, use equipment such as carts or pallet jacks.
Expect a lot of walking, time in cold storage areas and pressure to finish orders on time.

Is this the same as a Walmart Spark driver?
No. Online orderfilling associates and personal shoppers are Walmart employees paid by the hour. Spark is a separate delivery app: Spark drivers are independent contractors who use their own car, choose delivery offers in the app and are paid per delivery, not by the hour, and they cover their own vehicle costs. If you want a regular job with a set schedule and employee benefits, apply for orderfilling roles on Walmart Careers, not through Spark.
Some US stores also hire employee delivery drivers who use Walmart vehicles. Those roles are listed separately on Walmart Careers and have their own driving requirements.
How much does Walmart pay for online orderfilling?
Pay in the USA
Walmart’s minimum starting pay for store workers is $14 per hour, and the company has said its average starting wage is about $16. Online orderfilling and personal shopper roles generally follow store pay for the location, so rates are higher in states and cities with a higher minimum wage. Check the posting for your store.
Pay in Canada
Walmart Canada lists a minimum rate in every posting. In 2026, OMNI Customer Fulfillment Associate postings start from $17.75 per hour in Ontario (for example Parry Sound, Kenora and Renfrew) and $18.05 in Bracebridge, while some Atlantic postings start lower, such as $16.50 in Gander (Newfoundland and Labrador) and $15.80 in Bathurst (New Brunswick). The final rate depends on relevant experience.

Requirements
- Minimum age 16 in Walmart Canada postings; many US store roles also hire from 16.
- Attention to detail: picking the right product, size and quantity matters.
- Comfort with handheld devices (training is provided).
- Ability to walk most of the shift, lift totes and work in refrigerated and freezer areas.
- Flexible availability, often including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.
A driver’s license is not needed for orderfilling roles. Previous retail or fulfillment experience helps but is not required.
How to apply
- Open Walmart Careers for your country and search “online orderfilling” or “personal shopper” (USA) or “OMNI Customer Fulfillment” (Canada).
- Check the store, schedule and minimum pay in the posting.
- Complete the online application. Selected candidates are invited to an interview, usually at the store.
Watch out for fake offers: Walmart does not charge you to apply, and real store jobs are only posted on Walmart’s official careers sites.
Career growth
Experienced orderfilling associates can become team leads for the pickup and delivery department and later move toward coach (assistant manager) roles. The skills also transfer well to warehouse and distribution center jobs, which often pay more.

Tips for Applying
Show that you are fast and careful: mention any job where accuracy mattered, such as stocking, picking orders or working a register. If you have shopped for a family or a business, that counts too.
Be clear about early-morning availability, since many pickup departments start picking orders before the store opens.
